DIY: Making your old Candle Jars Into something Worthwhile

It is now October! Finally, it feels like fall. Today isn't going to be beauty or fashion related. Instead I decided to do my first DIY for all of you! Now, I had watched a couple videos on YouTube about how to make your old candle jars into something useful. I had a couple that I had just finished using, so I decided to give it a try, but to also share how I did it with you guys.

Overall the process is pretty simple and not to time consuming. I had three different candles, One from Bath and Body Works, one from Target and another from Wal Mart. I have heard that Bath and body works candle jars are easier to clean, but mine was in a mason jar, it was more of a challenge, but it is clean and shiny now! The other two were quite simple to clean. So let me start off with what you will need, to make you candle jar's into something worthwhile!
What you will need:
-Kitchen Tongs
-Rubbing Alcohol
-Paper Towels
-A pan of boiling water (Any size pan will work)
-Hot pads (or a towel)
-Small Trash Can (With a Liner)
Vanilla-Wal Mart, Sweet Spun Sugar- Target, Pumpkin Spice Latte -B&BW.
To start, take off any labels that are on the candle jars. The label doesn't have to be completely off, the steam (from the boiling water) and rubbing and alcohol will help to take off the rest of the label. Now, take a pan of water (fill half way, Do not fill to the brim), then let the water to come to boil. When the water starts to boil, you can put one candle (or more if you want) into the pan. I recommend only doing one candle at a time, then you have more control over that candle. When you have you candle in the pan, you DO NOT want to mix the hot water with the candle wax, it will make it ten times harder to get all of the wax out of the jar.
Using tongs to remove the jar from the boiling water.
You can then use the tongs to hold the candle in place as it melts in the pan. Once you can see wax start to melt and its just swirling in the jar, then use the small trash can and throw out the wax. As the wax comes out the little discs at the bottom of jar that hold the wicks in place, should come out as well. Immediately after, take your paper towel and start to wipe out the jar. (Of course use the hot pads (or towel) to hold the jar steady while you do this). When you have wiped it out set that jar aside and work on any others that you have, and repeat this process.
Now, once you finish getting out all of the wax, and wiping the jars out you will be left with a black ring around the sides of the jars, or left over label on the bottom or side of your jar. This is were the rubbing alcohol comes into play! You then take a paper towel and just put a good amount of rubbing alcohol (Don't go crazy with it) onto the towel. Start to rub off any mess left behind, this might take a bit of elbow grease to get a clean jar, but its worth it. Some jars will be easier that others, it just depends.

The rubbing alcohol works like a charm and removes anything left behind that the boiling water didn't remove. Out all of three jars that I cleaned the jar from target was definitely the easiest, the hardest was the Bath and body works jar, now of course this was a mason jar, so it was a bit harder to get my hand into the jar and clean it. Once you finish cleaning them off with rubbing alcohol, you can them rinse them under warm water.
The Finished Product!
To finish off dry them and enjoy your clean jars! So instead of throwing out candle jars when they don't have any wax left to burn, you can clean them and use them for storage, putting makeup brushes in them, lipsticks, or any other uses that you have for them! They are just very simple containers that can add something to a room, ect. I thought this was such a great idea, and they look great after cleaning them. I hope you guys used this when ever you have finished off a candle. I hope the steps to make this DIY help, and let me know if you end up trying this out in the comment section!
Hope everyone's Sunday is wonderful and your October is going swell. :) I will talk to you guys very soon! Love you all.<3
Xoxo,
Jacqueline
